Concert Band

The Centennial Concert Bands have established themselves as among the premier school wind bands in the DFW area and the state. The Concert Band Program consists of the Centennial Wind Symphony, the Symphonic Winds, the Symphonic Band, and Concert Band I, Concert Band II, and Concert Band III. The ensembles have been recognized for musical excellence and are perennial UIL Sweepstakes winners. In multiple years, all 5 concert bands that attended UIL Concert and Sight reading Contest received a Sweepstakes rating.

The Centennial Wind Symphony has also performed well in the UIL State Honor Band Contest, placing 2nd in class 4A in 2008, 6th in class 5A in 2016, and 3rd in class 5A in 2018. Additionally, many members of the CHS Band Program have been recognized for individual musical achievement through participation in All-Region Band, Area qualification, and membership in the Texas All-Sate Band.  Many CHS musicians are also recognized for superior performances at UIL Region Solo & Ensemble Contest and qualification for the Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest held each May in Austin.

Percussion

Centennial Percussion Group (CPG) involves all percussionists at CHS, Lawler middle school, and Wester middle school. The CPG students are focused on a well-rounded Percussion education involving all aspects of the medium. Students not only learn the basic fundamentals of pitched and non-pitched percussion but also the skills needed to perform them both as a soloist and as part of an ensemble.

Throughout the year students perform various solos, all-state and all-region music, percussion ensembles, marching percussion (drumline), and band literature. All facets of percussion are explored throughout the seven-year career - marching percussion, concert percussion, snare drum, timpani, keyboard, drum set, world percussion, hand percussion, and novelty percussion. Students often demonstrate these skills throughout the year at recitals, concerts, and contests.

The CHS Color Guard has been recognized repeatedly for outstanding artistic and technical merit at competitions throughout the DFW area.  Most recently, the 2022 Titan JV and Varsity Winter Guard placed 2nd at the NTCA Championships.

Jazz Band

The Centennial Jazz Ensembles are made up of some of the most outstanding musicians in the CHS Band Program. Both Jazz Ensembles I and II perform the best in big band jazz through several campus concerts each year.

Individual musicians are also recognized for outstanding achievement through their participation in All-Region and All-State Jazz Ensembles.
